I grew up on a tobacco Farm in a small community in western North Carolina. During my youth I fell in love with the earth and have found great pleasure in this appreciation.
At the age of 18 I joined the Marines and had the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures. The four years I spent traveling and meeting people had an amazing effect on the way I think and experience life.
After my four years in the service, I discovered art through an art history class. I began to paint and found something that will challenge my mind for the rest of my life. Art has also been a place to hide, to find escape during difficult times.
I make art because I enjoy creating an image that previously did not exist. The mind is an amazing tool and I get great satisfaction when I let it guide me through the creative process.
I begin a painting in one of two ways; I take an image I have seen inside my head or an Image I have seen in nature. I try to duplicate this image and let it go in the direction it chooses. The second way is that I begin to paint and the painting becomes what it wants. I will then paint other paintings that are similar to the original.
My art consists of oil based, enamel, acrylic, spray and paint pens. I usually always paint on canvas with the sizes varying between 16”x 20” to 48”x 22”.
I now reside in Winston- Salem North Carolina with my supportive wife and three beautiful children. I paint in the evenings after the children are asleep.
